The Finnish community in the San Francisco Bay area came together in force on January 19, when close to 400 Finns participated in the Finnish Heritage Day organized with the San Jose Sharks.
The Sharks hosted the Tampa Bay Lightning in a victorious NHL hockey game, which had Finnish representation on both teams; Joonas Donskoi playing for the Sharks and Valtteri Filppula playing for the Lightning.
The 400 participating Finns were eagerly waving their Finnish rally towels and wearing anything Finnish, as they supported their favorite team and specifically their Finnish players.
The over 17,000 spectators in the SAP Center got a firsthand experience for that Finns are not necessarily a quiet tribe, and they are passionate for their hockey, when the resounding “Joooonas” brought the noise-meter to peak values!
After the game the Sharks had arranged a photo shoot on the ice for Joonas and his 400 fans.
